Karen Johnson RDN, LD was awarded the 2018 Medallion award at the MAND Annual Meeting.
Karen has been an RD and AND/MAND member since 1978. She has been a clinical dietitian at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth Minnesota for 35 years and her current areas of practice are oncology, hospice, weight loss surgery and eating disorders. Karen’s colleague LaTina Else commented, One of my favorite things professionally about Karen is that she is always teaching me something. No matter how many years we have done group together, I often remark “that is really interesting, I didn’t know that.” She often has a student with her and I know they benefit from her wisdom and guidance. Karen is a lifelong learner and is always teaching.
Brenda Schwerdt shared, Karen’s list of achievements and accomplishments is extensive, and I could talk about all of those but you can gather that information from her resume. What you cannot get from her resume is her passion and curiosity for dietetics. Whenever there is a new opportunity Karen is first in line to grasp that opportunity. Sometimes, I’ll hear a co-worker say “I don’t know anything about that topic; I cannot do an interview on it.” Karen would say “Great! I don’t know anything about the topic; I would love to learn something new and do the interview.”
